On the morning of Tuesday, September 5, 2017, Leland passed away peacefully in his sleep. He had been working hard to clean out his home that was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. He was nervous about rebuilding his life but looked forward to the future. Leland was happy to see friends and family flock to the aide of those who were affected by the storm.

Leland was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, February 29, 1964 to Willa Mae and Walter Deane Hill. Leland was the third child out of five children.

Leland graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering, Spacecraft Systems and Mission Design in 1986. He was part of AIAA. Right after graduating he began working at Boeing Aerospace Operations as a Payload Safety Engineer.

During Leland's 30 year career, he worked with the amazing people of Bastion Technologies, Hernandez Engineering, SpaceX, GHG Inc., Loral Space Info Systems, and Boeing Aerospace Operations along with several other companies as a Senior Engineer and a Payload Safety Engineer. He worked on projects that impacted the International Space Station, the Hubble Telescope, and the future of manned and unmanned space travel. Leland was always ready to help a coworker with anything and would review the safety of projects he was not even on.

On August 23rd, 1986, Leland married Brenda Gaye Triplett in Plano, Texas. They bought their home in Friendswood, Texas in 1987. On August 1st, 1989, Leland's first daughter, Brianne Alvina, was born. His second daughter, Ashley Deanne, was born November 4th, 1994.

Leland's favorite hobbies included cooking enough for an small army, baking, hunting and fishing, wood working, and being overall creative. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends where he was always the one behind the camera. Anything that interested Leland, he did and had a knack for.

Leland had a big heart and loved taking care of everyone. He "adopted" as his own daughters, Brianne and Ashley's, friends. Tonya Marie was taken in and was treated as a daughter to Leland. She gave Leland the only grandchildren he knew, Daemon Christopher and Alana Kristine. Leland enjoyed greatly being a part of their lives and wanted nothing more than to be their Granddad. He loved baking cakes for their birthdays and spoiling them like crazy.

Leland was preceded in death by his loving wife Brenda in 2014, and his father Walter in 2003.

Leland is survived by daughters Brianne and Ashley, his mother Willa, and siblings: Kate, Britt, Ted, and Erin.
